I purchased this as a Christmas gift for my son. He said that it exceeded his expectations.

We bought this map before we went to New Zealand. It's a great map, practically indestructible. The problem is that even though it's large, it doesn't have nearly enough detail. We used it because it recommends highlights and camping areas and hikes. However, there are lots and lots of free roadway and close up detailed maps of nearly every area of new zealand available for free at airports, hotels, rental car agencies, travel information booths etc, which are very easy to find once you arrive.

I did use this map as a reference as we were driving on the North Island. The fact that the map is coated makes it easy to use, and it will not rip. However, my husband was using the free maps we got from the car rental agency. Those free maps were much more detailed and thus much better than the Rough Guide map. Not a good use of money!

We had a variety of free and purchased road maps for our 15-day South Island driving tour, but this is the one that I used the most. It's big, the paper is plasticized against tears and spills, and it's really easy to read, even in dim light. The glued-on paper cover came off but it didn't matter, still worked great. Don't worry about the lack of city maps- you can pick those up free at the motels.

I drove from Queenstown in the South Island to Auckland in the North Island. The map was clear and easy to read, durable, and accurate. My only complaint is that the detail for the major cities could have been improved. I have two suggestions if you go to New Zealand and will be driving between cities...first, rent or buy a GPS. The distances between points, particularly in the South Island, is vast with very few cars and while the roadsigns (and maps) are good, there is something reassuring about knowing how far and how long it is to the next waypoint. Also, New Zealand makes use of speed cameras (not indicated on the map)...the GPS unit alerted me and allowed me to correct my speed on more than one occasion!

This is an accurate road map for New Zealand. I just got back from a trip in June 2010 and everything was up-to-date. What it lacks (the reason it is just ok) are insets for the major cities. Instead of showing Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Queenstown, and Dunedin they've opted to show sounding depths in the open ocean (as if a mariner is ever going to rely on a travel map to navigate his million dollar ship!).Really good maps are readily available at any gas station in New Zealand. They are about double the cost to triple the cost of this map but they show all the major cities for navigation.I would buy this map again because it was really easy to use and nice to have during the planning stage. We didn't buy another map in New Zealand and managed to muck our way around the big cities without one.It got an extra star (total of 4) for showing all the hiking trails in the country! Even the short 15 minute return tracks!

Great detail on a durable map, with the North Island on one side and the South Island on the reverse. Pretty thorough city/town listing.

Okay, truth...my daughter is 10 and in the 5th grade. Grandpa, an avid reader like myself, went out on a limb and bought the book for her last Easter. We struggle to find books that are in her 8.4-9.5 reading level, have age appropriate content with a plot she has the life experiences to connect to and comprehend, that are also challenging AND interest her...tall order. We have read all the popular series - adore Harry Potter, of course; tore through the "Greggor the Overlander" series, etc. - so even though in previewing the series I noticed it contains some very minor-vanilla...no F-bombs or S$$T level, mature-type language, and there are a couple scenes that hint at an intimate relationship in book 2 (trying not to spoil books), I gave the book a green light. We started reading it together, taking turns reading aloud, and were BOTH immediately, read 30-40 pages at a time, wake up needing to see what happens to Celena, come home from school hoping to fit in a read and "see what Celena has gotten up to now" before dance, hooked like I have never seen her before!!! And while she is an awesome reader, she is not, by any means a sit & read person, preferring to dance, sing, socialize, game, etc...yet another challenge to add to the list. The challenged are important to note because the way Maas has crafted the characters has achieved what NO OTHER series has for my daughter, and that is to draw her in to the point she NEEDS to keep reading, every single day. The characters are beautifully developed to the point where my daughter was crying when she thought her favorite character died, and was angry at who did die. Maas has painstaking developed 3-dimensional characters that are ever evolving, and that are relatable to all ages. She has also created an entirely new setting that is similar enough to other books of the same genre, like Hunger Games (she has read/watched all), yet it is entirely new & fresh. The writing is clear & thought-provoking, and she weaves in asides & flashbacks that challenge and engage readers. We have had the most incredible conversations and my daughter has made multiple connections to other texts, movies, life, and especially music/song lyrics while reading. These connections are the reason I personally & professionally recommend the series to children beginning at age 10 who are reading at a 6.5-7+ grade level, primarily due to the challenging vocabulary. The twists and turns, the co afflicts & themes, character interactions, vivid & selected detailing, and obviously careful/thoughtful word choices make this series, in my opinion, an award winning, best selling series. As a reading specialist and 18 year veteran teacher of struggling readers, I fully give not just this book, but the entire series 5 stars! I could rave on and on...but I don't want to give away a single detail and only, sincerely hope what I have shared has piqued your curiosity enough to give the series a try yourself, along with a loved one, and that through sharing our personal experiences with the books I have helped answer the question of reader age appropriateness & interest level. Buckle up...it's a wild, wonderful ride through Adarlan!Added info for Book 2...Please note: I am reading the series aloud with my daughter, so as we go we just naturally, out of habit, change cuss words to "gosh" and "darn.," and the intimacy scenes were handled as follows: "A., this next chapter has Choal and Celeana interacting like a married couple sometimes do in private. Shall we read or skip?" Reply, "Well, um is it very like detailed?" Me: "Nah, it's pretty vague." A: "Well, I know she shouldn't be doing that stuff because they are not married, but let's just read it...it's not like I'm embarrassed or going to act like that myself...ewwww!" (Love the sweetness this age!) Basically, here is my point and yes I have one... if you take the time to first, preview what you will read with your child later; second, spend the time to read aloud with your child; third, talk to your child & maintain open dialogue, all the time, about everything, just as though they are the adults-in-training they really are (not saying talk like you are buddies, peers, or equals), the content of a fictional novel is not going to become controversial or be outrageous to them, throwing them into a tizzy of misadventure and exploits! So yes, while, the series is for ages 14+, I still maintain that WITH parental supervision/accompaniment, this is an incredible series to read together!

I believe I'm going to have a love-hate relationship with this series. I'm breezing through them rather quickly, and yet I'm not LOVING them the way I feel like I should. I recall hearing that this was "A Song of Fire and Ice for the younger set" and I was rather excited about that idea. It doesn't quite seem to be that, though. This novel was rather hard for me to read. It suffered from Second Book Syndrome - a lot going on and being explained and yet not a lot happening. I like the lore and fantasy elements that are coming into focus, however a lot of the elements felt messy and thrown together.I must admit that I'm also still rather indifferent when it comes to Celaena and Chaol. Celaena is still vain, shallow, selfish, and oddly unintelligent for the greatest assassin in the land. Chaol is increasingly annoying, ignorant, and pompous. Maybe they are made for each other. Or maybe they are a bit too much. I felt a bit like the romance really took over the novel. I wanted a lot more world building and just got a whole lot of romance.Really, it's the story of the past and the fantasy elements that are keeping my interest. I'm really hoping as more characters come into the picture, I'll have more stories to be interested in.

Well, holy cow. I don't even know where to start...This book. This series. These characters. THIS AUTHOR.We are in full on queen mode in Queen of Shadows, obviously. Hence the title. Calaena shows up some, for the sake of appearances, but she has completely accepted her heritage and now goes by Aelin. She's still the intense, no nonsense, scary-as-heck chick we've all grown to know and love, but there's tons more to her character that we only got a glimpse of in Heir of Fire. She's ready to go and taking names. Like literally taking names as she crosses the ocean back to Adarlan. Her cockiness and downright meanness in the first two books really rubbed me the wrong way at times. You can't help but to be drawn to her character, but the things she said and did were.. disturbing, to say the least. And she still has that fire, but there is so much more depth to her now that she has accepted who she truly is and, in the process, is opening her heart again to the people she loves instead of shutting them out and running off of pure rage. Her complexity makes her one of the best female protagonists I've ever read.We start out back in Rifthold, and at this point everything is up in the air. We know why she's there and who she's after, but how she's going to go about doing this is anyone's guess. I will say this, A LOT gets resolved in this book. Granted, there are plenty of other monumental surprises that step into take their place, but I was surprised by how many plot lines got tied up. I was expecting two for sure, but the third one threw me for a complete loop. If anyone says they predicted that to happen, they are a liar. And my goodness, these last two books are going to be downright scary. I was on pins and needles the entire time. You thought present Erilea was bad.. it's about to get wayyyy worse. And as for the book being 650 pages.. Why are people upset about this?! I say, the more the better! Now onto the other characters, because there are quite a few POVs in this book...I've always been partial to Dorian, so being in his POV was absolute torture. The ending of HoF about sent me over the edge and I didn't even want to think about what what was going to happen in this book. I was a nervous wreck. And then PAGE ONE happens. Like, literally as soon as I open the book, there it is. Chapter One. Pretty sure my heart dropped into my stomach. And then every time we were back in his POV after that. I did not handle it well. I hate Valg demons. And while I've never particularly liked Chaol's character (I know I'm in the minority here), he sort of takes on a whole new persona in QoS. Maybe it's the fact of what all he's given up and how he sees the world changing that makes him into the person he's become. He's always seemed to me like a guy who is scared of change, and has an incredible ability to pick and choose which parts of people to accept. And I'm not just talking about Aelin, but also the king and Dorian. He sees only what he wants to see, and if he doesn't understand it or like it, he just shuts it out completely. He doesn't like magic. He's scared of it. He's also very scared of what will happen if people with magic have free reign again. We've known this since Crown of Midnight so I'm not sure why his continuing dislike of it surprises anyone. Chao is not going to be the same person he's been for the first three books. His life has completely change, so while his character is infuriating to me at times, he's still a vital part of this story and I don't dislike him. His character, by the end of this book, grows leaps and bounds and I was glad to see it happen. Now for Rowan. Ah, Rowan. I still don't know how Sarah Maas did it. She gave us Dorian and Chaol in the first two books and everyone was on their respective team. Then in one book, ONE BOOK, she made me toss all my loyalties aside fall in love with Rowan's character. How anyone can not like him is beyond me. He's like the male version of Aelin, and the interaction between those two are some of the best dialogue of the book and they just work very well together. With his character showing up in Rifthold, you see him having to adjust to life without magic. And as the bond between them grows, you see different, softer sides of the Fae warrior. I love him.We didn't get too much from Aedion in this book apart from the first few chapters as he awaits his execution. His reunion with Aelin was everything I thought it would be.. I ain't ashamed to say I may have teared up a bit. They are the only bit of family each other has left and they totally had their moment. It was perfect.Manon's POV scares me. (Besides Abraxos, because who doesn't love Abraxos?) She is dark and wicked and infuriatingly loyal to that wretched grandmother of hers. I know she's redeemable, but for a good chunk of the book I was hoping Asterin would just overthrow her and become the new heir.. assuming that's how it works. Which it probably doesn't. BUT Manon has some feels going on that she's not even aware of and I think in this next book she will most definitely have to make a choice of which side she is on. It very well could've happened in this book, but we have no resolution where this is concerned. And that scene with Aelin.. on the edge of your seat stuff right there. I'm not sure how I feel about some illusions of her character, but I'm not completely against her playing an even bigger role in the last two books.I'm not even going to spend time on Arobynn because I hate him. But some of the other characters, I loved. Calaena has been surrounded by a troupe of men for far too long and it's about time the women came out to play and they did not disappoint! Lysandra, wow. Love her. So much more to her character than meets the eye, and her and Aelin's relationship was refreshing. Nesryn, even though we don't get anything from her perspective is also a pretty bad chick and helping Chaol with the rebels. It's safe to say, unless you're in denial, you will know why she's there from the get go. And lastly, Elide, Lady Marion's daughter, is brought into the picture and hanging with the witches, no less. Very much excited about what role she will be playing in the future. She's got some surprises in store, I think. For the most part, the book felt like long build-ups. Part one was a build-up and it was resolved. Part two also felt like a build-up, and it wasn't as cleanly resolved as the first. I still have some lingering questions about that. Prepare yourselves for part two. Big time game changer coming your way.AllI can say, is that if you truly love this series, and I mean disregard the romances and all that, and are in love with the story, this book will not disappoint. Some spoilers ahead...I'm going to rant just for a sec. I keep seeing some low to mid reviews on this book and they all have one thing in common: Chaol Westfall. I know people shipped Calaena and Chaol really hard, but being this distraught over the downfall of their romantic relationship does a disservice to this series. And I can say that because I am completely Team Dorian and have had to put up with Chaol from day on. Not to mention Sorscha from HoF. Was not a fan of that little surprise. Never once have I given these books bad reviews simply because things weren't happening the way I wanted them to. If the romance aspect is your biggest concern, go read romance novels. The growth and maturity of the characters is wonderful, and I'm glad that Maas is not scared to kill off characters we love or sever relationships if it means progressing the story to where it needs to go. I'm completely okay with the direction Aelin and Rowan are headed because they work. Even if in my heart of hearts I had this small hope of King Dorian and Queen Aelin falling love... yada yada yada... Rowan is the dude and I'm okay with that. So if all you're going to do is get on here and rant about, "I want the old Calaena back," "Maas completely ruined Chaol's character," "These books are too long," Guess what? Go read another series! Or some watered down YA novel where everything works out just as it should in the end. These books are gold. Sarah Maas is a genius. And you can't convince me otherwise.

I got this for my father and he simply loved it!! If you like classic cars this book is for you. It’s wonderfully made, and got all the popular cars from the 50s. And it’s good for all ages I guess.Great artwork!

This book had several different makes and models of cars in the fifties. I love that it has a label to go with each car. They are all printed on single sided, non-perforated pages. The only problem I had with this book, is that the interiors of the cars weren't drawn, but were lightly shaded, where you could sorta make out what was supposed to be there. It was really difficult to draw this in because outlines from the next page showed darker than the light shading. However, it could be colored over solid. This book is great for any level colorist and is especially good for practicing shading and highlighting.I did really like that there was some light greyscale to show where highlights and shading go.

I got this book for my hubby and teenage sons. They enjoy coloring but my most of my books are either to girly or to hard. This book has amazing images! The whole family loves this book!

The best travel guide for the Caribbean, hands down! First, it includes the Bahamas, Cuba, and Hispañola, which other guides do not. Second, everything is organized very well, and there are lots of useful maps. Each island has an overview, and is then divided into regions, so you get more detail. It has a comprehensive list of restaurants, hotels, and attractions, as well as very good travel advice and information on each island. If you are travelling to the Caribbean, be sure to buy this book, and bring it with you. Some people say it's too heavy to bring, but it's really not that heavy. I think it's amazingly compact for all the information it has. It's also good for discovering islands that aren't in the mainstream travel packages. Oh, it also includes information on transportation to, from and on each island. I could ramble on for an hour about how great this guide is, but I think you get the point now.If you're visiting multiple islands, this is especially good since 65 islands are covered. It's worth every penny I paid for it.

I purchased this book in prevision of my wife and I trip to St-Martin for our honeymoon. I couldn't find "lonely Planet" specifically for the island, so I got this one hoping that I'd have enough information to help us enjoy our time in St-Martin at the maximum. I must say that I was a bit disappointed when I found out there wasn't much said about St-Martin. Information is provided, but not as much as I hoped, so I barely used it! As a matter fact, I left it behind when we went to island, I didn't need it! Information collected on the Internet was more useful.

I read through it and sent it to my "bestie" so we could start to dream and plan. I think it helped us narrow down some locations based on our travel preferences. I think with these I would also like a little more included about specific places to see, or top rated attractions by visitors. All in all, it's fun to look through. (Oh...very few pictures).

Good maps, basic information, and a lot of it. After planning a trip in the Caribbean for three weeks, some to islands we know very well and some not at all, I looked at this travel book. I tend toward the Lonely Planet guides and Rough Guides, and this did not fail me.

I downloaded the kindle version. It is difficult to use and find what you are looking for by location. I wish I had the paperback version.

I bought this for a cruise to the Caribbean. It was very helpful! We used it on a number of stops instead of doing excursions. It has good information and safety tips. Has maps included as well. Would definitely recommend using when traveling.

Great book

Comprehensive book. The chapters on the smaller islands are a bit shorter than I would have liked, but it was a useful resource and well organized.

#847,551 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

The authors have written a fine book here and it has and will continue to be a source of good information on the subject. What is most interesting about the approach of genetic programming is that it does not make use of the inference methods of formal logic in the search for the correct program. Correctly observing that logical thinking is insufficient for invention and creativity, the authors follow the "logic considered harmful" philosophy in their attempts to get a computer to find a creative/original solution to a problem. And most importantly, they discuss fourteen examples where genetic programming has produced results that are competitive with human-produced results. The book is almost 1200 pages long, but without reading all the examples one could cover the main points in a reasonable time frame. The reader knowing the LISP language will appreciate the discussion more. After a brief introduction to the book in chapter 1, the authors move on to a detailed discussion of the philosophy and approaches used in genetic programming. They list the five steps that must be done before applying a genetic algorithm to a problem and give an overview of the LISP background needed to understand genetic programming. The authors emphasize that the genetic algorithm is probabilistic in nature, with the initial populations, individual selection, and genetic operation chosen at random. They give flowcharts illustrating a typical genetic algorithm and program, and then show executable programs can be automatically created. A very extensive list of references on genetic programming is given at the end of the chapter. In the next part, the authors discuss how to eliminate the requirement that the programmer specify the architecture in advance to the program to be created. After reviewing some methods that were previously used to make the choice of architecture, the authors move on to describing a set of architecture-altering operations that give an automated method for determining the architectures of evolving programs. The discussion on automatically defined recursion is particularly interesting. The book then shows how to use the results so far to allow problem-solving to be done using genetic programming, the first one being the rotation of automobile tires and the second being evolving a computer program with the behavior of Boolean even-parity functions. This is followed by a discussion of how to use architecture-altering operations to solve a time-optimal control problem. The most interesting part of this discussion is that it illustrates the important point that disadvantageous actions should be taken in the short term so that the long-term objective can be achieved. In chapter 14, the ant foraging problem is used to illustrate a form of the (Minsky) multiagent problem and architecture-altering operations. This is followed by discussions on the digit recognition problem and the transmembrane segment identification problem. The authors choose the Fibonacci sequence to illustrate how recursion can be used in solving problems with genetic programming. The necessity of using internal storage is illustrated using the cart centering problem. The authors then overview the use of the Genetic Programming Problem Solver (GPPS) for automatically creating a computer program to solve a problem. Several problems are examined using this Solver, such as symbolic regression, sorting networks, and the intertwined spirals problem. The next part then considers the application of genetic programming to the automated synthesis of analog electrical circuits. The authors judge, rightfully, that the design process is one that will be a good judge of automated technique versus one that was done by humans, especially considering the fact that analog design is considered by many to be an "art" rather than a "science". The authors show how to import the SPICE simulation system into the genetic programming system, and discuss how validation of circuit design using this simulator would be done by the genetic programming system. After showing how a low-pass filter may be successfully designed using the genetic programming system, the authors show how with a few changes it can be used to design many different types of circuits. Interestingly, the authors cite the rediscovery by genetic programming of the elliptic filter topology of W. Cauer. Cauer arrived at his discovery via the use of elliptic functions, but the genetic program did not make use of these, but relied solely on the problem's fitness measure and natural selection! An interesting discussion is also given of the role of crossover in genetic programming by comparing the problem of synthesizing a lowpass filter with and without using crossover. The authors conclude that the crossover operation plays a large contribution to the actual solution of the problem. Then later, the authors show how genetic programming actually evolved a cellular automata that performs better than a succession of algorithms written by humans in the last two decades. Specifically, they show how genetic programming evolved a rule for the majority classification problem for one-dimensional two-state cellular automata that exceeds the accuracy of all known rules. Most interestingly, the authors show how genetic programming evolved motifs for detecting the D-E-A-D box family of proteins and for detecting the manganese superoxide dismutase family. The actual performance and implementation issues involved in genetic programming are discussed in the last two parts of the book. They discuss the computer time needed to yield the 14 instances where they claim that genetic programming has produced results that are competitive with human-produced results. The authors wrap things up in the last chapter of the book and discuss other instances where genetic programming has succeeded in automatically producing computer programs that are competitive with human-produced results. The evidence they have in the book is impressive but there are a few areas that will be ultimate tests of this approach, the most important being the discovery of new mathematical results or algorithms. It is this area that requires the most creativity on the part of the inventor.

The quest for *Automatic Programming* is the holy grail of artificial intelligence. The dream of having computer programs write other useful computer programs has haunted researchers since the nineteen fifties. In Genetic Programming III -Darwinian Invention and problem solving (GP3) by John R. Koza, Forest H Bennet III, David Andre and Martin A Keane, the authors claim that the first inscription on this trophy should be the name Genetic Programming (GP). GP is about applying evolutionary algorithms to search the space of computer programs. The authors paraphrase Arthur Samuel of 1959 and argue that with this method it is possible to "tell the computer what to do without telling it explicitly how to do it".The main hypothesis of the book is that GP is not only the first instance of true automatic programming but also creative to such an extant that it competes with humans in solving very hard problems and therefore the solutions produced by GP can sometimes be called inventions, thus the name "Darwinian Invention Machine". The book starts by listing sixteen proposed attributes of any automatic programming system. The attribute list begins with obvious properties such as the ability to produce entities that can run on a computer, continues by describing components of full computer programs and ends by expressing fuzzier concepts such as applicability, scalability and competitiveness with human-produced results. The authors argue that GP definitely has most of the 16 attributes and at least to some extent possesses the remaining few. The last attribute, human competitive results, is in turn defined by a list of eight properties where each of them gives enough evidence to conclude competitiveness to results produced by the intellect of a human. This list includes concepts such as whether the results are pantentable, publishable in scientific journals or better then best known human solutions. GP3 reports 14 experiments by the authors where the they claim that GP produced results fulfilling one or more of these properties and thus are competitive with that of a skilled human such as an engineer, mathematician, designer or programmer. Examples of results with the "darwinian invention quality" include sorting networks, analogue electrical circuit synthesis and creation of motifs for protein family detection. Pointers are also given to human competitive solutions evolved by other researchers.Overall there is no question that this is an important book putting the spotlight on one of the peak performing and most promising candidates for the general AI prize. There is no doubt that this book belongs in the standard library of all GP researchers or practitioners. This volumous book is a bit heterogeneous, probably stemming from the fact that is combined from a number of previously published papers with some new material. On the other hand is the volume important documentation of innovative work done by John Koza and his colleagues. In many place numerous pointers to work by other researchers are given but in the end I believe that the book would have a stronger case for presenting the GP state-of-the-art by including more references to similar research by other research groups. However most important and intriguing thing about this book is the provocative questions raised concerning definitions and claims of human competitive performance, "Darwinian invention" and artificial intelligence - particularly whether we have already passed an important milestone in the history of AI - automatic programming.

Why this book, when there are several shorter books on GP, and its principle author, John Koza, has written two other, more general and equally voluminous books on GP? This book addresses how to evolve program architecture, that's why! Living organisms didn't grow arms and eyes through simple mutation. It required more subtle genetic operators. Traditional genetic operators (as used in genetic algorithms) may be sufficient for evolving solutions to optimization problems where the structure if not the specifics of each solution is pretty much the same. But to effectively evolve program structures, you need architecture altering genetic operators. This book provides motivations in computer science, foundations in biology, and explanations in English.

At some point while wading through the hundreds of books, thousands of YouTube videos, and millions of blogs and web pages devoted to teach a human being how to run, I got so bogged down by so much contradictory points of view that I just gave up. Not on running, just on the search for the perfection of it. I really love to run. But for thirteen years I stopped. This year I turn 44 and I have decided to make duathlon my sport. For years I have been body building and cross training on road and mountain bike. I started running again this spring as part of my training and immediately became hobbled by shin splints. And so I did what everyone does, I searched the Internet for advice on how to fix the problem. And that lead to article after article and video after video of information on every conceivable aspect of running. It also led to a severe bout of information overload and it led me to just give up on reading, viewing, or listening to any more advice from experts on running. So when I picked this book up at the library it was only because the words body and building where in the title and I spent two decades doing that so I figured I could wade through the B.S. one more time but with little hope of getting past the first chapter. But then as I read on I realized that there isn't really any B.S. and that it rather clearly breaks down running by individual body systems and yet shows how the are all connected. It also hits on most of the running training methods out there today but in a way that gives you an overview rather than a dogmatic opinion. There are also chapters devoted to all the usual aspects covered in every other running book I've read. But this is more like a running for dummies book but for people of average intelligence. People who aren't necessarily attempting to be a better runner by reading but rather by running. So for me, this book is it. I am done. I am returning this book to the library today after the copy I orderd on Amazon arrives today. I'm not reading any more books on running. I'm not reading any more magazines on the latest running shoes. I will still watch the occasional video on running events and destinations but not on form or cadence or stretching or cross training. It's all just a waist of energy to me at this point. I've settled on a source of information for me that I will reference from now on on those subjects. I now will own exactly one book on running after reading or attempting to read dozens. It won't get updated with the latest greatest fads and crazes in the world of running and to me that's good. In fact, during my search for perfection in my running I realized that this book probably isn't perfect, BUT, it's good enough. And good enough is something I've never found from any of the other books, videos, and cyber opinions that I have waded through to get here.

Build Your Running Body seems like one of the more thorough running books out there. Here's a quick breakdown of the chapters...-Chapter 1 covers basic running stuff such as motivation, gear, etc.-Chapter 2 is what I think of as the meat and potatoes of the book. It tells you how to build the parts of your body to get you a better "running body". A few areas discussed include the muscles, connective tissues, hormones, nervous system - I like the some of these are things runners don't normally think about.-Chapter 3 talks helps you with a running program, talking about things such as a training schedule, recovery, injury prevention (BTW, runners with problematic hamstrings might want to check out Bulletproof Your Hamstrings-Chapter 4 discusses running and your diet-Chapter 5 talks about a racing strategy/approachAs you can see, its a pretty complete book that cover a lot of important (and little thought about) running information. There's also over a hundred workouts to help build your running body - from plyometrics to cross training - and there's even recipes! So if you're looking for ways to improve your running and your body, its worth a good look! :)

This is the *one* book to get if you are going to get any book on running. It's comprehensive, well-written and has many practical examples and advice. It validates many of the things I do now to keep this running body on the road.

I don't say a " must read book" but a " must have book" for any type of runners (or trainers) from amateurs to elite athletes. The book has very valuable information about how to plan a training routine, how to feed and how to avoid injuries, which you will need to check over and over during your preparation. Not only runners but also any kind of sports people can get advantage from it because it contains many useful information about human anatomy and results of important scientific researches about sports performance. The only downturn of it is, tables in the books are not easy to read in the kindle edition; so I strongly recommend to buy a hardcopy.

As I near my 30th birthday (yikes) I've been trying to get in better shape. This book has been very helpful for taking my running to the next level. Prior to reading it I typically ran at a fairly fast pace with low mileage and suffered tons of injuries from overuse. The book is very helpful in guiding you to running at the appropriate pace and distances. It will teach you how to avoid injury, get stronger, and faster. Its a very comprehensive book and has lots of information about strength training, improving nervous system, food, strengthening connective tissue, etc. etc. I really like all the exercises for injury prevention! Tons of information. If there is a critique, I think it is that the running plans are often a bit overly complex. If you are a new runner or not terribly serious you will have to modify the run plans to fit your needs. However, the information is all there to make those decisions. The book reads very easy and I enjoyed reading all the chapters that fit my goals. In the last 4 months I've gone from running ~ 3-4 miles a week to running >12 miles a week. I've avoided major injuries and the legs feel pretty good.

Wow, this book is like a reference manual for runners! Information geared towards whatever level you're at. Very detailed and lots of pictures to help demonstrate exercises, etc. Routines are included such as strengthening muscles using weights, stretching and routines for running schedules.

Agree with several others that this covers many, many key issues with running. I have some books that are better on specific parts of running, however this is the best overall book I have. I bought two additional books for friends.
