I was looking for some new stories for my almost-three year old because she's reached an age where she really enjoys narratives and we don't have a lot of good story books. She enjoyed this Mexican folk tale, which is whimsical has distinctive cultural themes. I was afraid she might not relate to it due to features like the wax doll trap for the rabbit, which I wasn't sure she would understand, or that the farmer was growing chilies, which she hadn't heard of before. It didn't seem to matter. She enjoyed the story and got involved in the back and forth between Rabbit and Coyote. She wanted to me to read it again the next night.
We love this book. Bought it for our grandson who’s 4. It was a favorite of our daughters when she was little.
Perfect condition and exactly as I remember it! Love this book and so excited to share with my daughter as she grows older! Great experience.
A great Pourquoi story. My students enjoyed it. There was a page in the book telling us what was true about the story.
my son loves this book. reads it over and over. just ordered some more like it. I even took it to my work place to read to my students. They love it.
Rabbit is very mischievous and clever. But after he steals chili peppers from a farmer one night, he finds himself trapped in a sack, waiting to be thrown into a pot of boiling water for the farmer's meal. Just then, Coyote comes along and asks what Rabbit is doing there. Rabbit tells him that he is waiting to marry the farmer's beautiful daughter and offers for Coyote to take his place. Coyote agrees, and Rabbit escapes. When Coyote figures out that he has been fooled, he runs off to find Rabbit. Again Rabbit tricks Coyote and escapes. Will Coyote ever catch Rabbit?I would definitely recommend this to any kid who wants to read a good short story. I thought it was a great book, and you will, too.
The little Spanish phrases in the picture added cuteness and some of them were so funny. We also learned a few Spanish from them. My 7 year old daughter liked the picture, especially when the rabbit was mad. And as a Japanese national, I was delighted to learn that the Mexican and Japanese share the same idea : A Rabbit on the Moon.
This is a great little story which kiddos really enjoy --- you think they will root for the rabbit, but they end up rooting for the poor coyote. The pictures are colorful and fun to look at -- lots of neat little details to discuss with the kiddos.
