About the Author
George Müller (1805–1898) was born in Kroppenstaedt, Prussia, the son of a tax collector. Before he became a Christian, George had the reputation of a liar and a thief. After accepting Christ as his personal Savior, he was used in remarkable ways to provide for over 10,000 orphans during his lifetime. He never went into debt or asked anyone to supply his needs. He trusted in God to provide for him and for the orphans, and God never failed to do so. In 1875, George began preaching tours that took him over 200,000 miles to forty-two countries to preach to 3 million people. God transformed a little boy who stole from his earthly father into a man who could be trusted with the resources of his heavenly Father. The ministry of George Müller continues today through the establishment of the George Müller Foundation.

I usually just read a book through once quite quickly and then put it back on the shelf with all the others. I read the George Mueller books slowly and stop frequently to savor and absorb the miracles that God has performed. I love the consistent trust that Mr. Mueller exhibits in the certainty that God is going to come through, even when He delays to the nth last minute. And sure enough as the days, weeks, months, years and decades pass his trust is never misplaced. Our Wonderful Provider never fails or embarrasses him. Whether it is hundreds or thousands of orphans that need to be fed that day, the provision is always complete. My own faith for financial help from my Heavenly Father has been transformed and my ability to receive and give has undergone a huge transformation. I have 3 Mueller books and they have been read two and three times slowly, methodically and lovingly. There seems to be an "impartation" one receives and that is exactly Mr. Mueller's hope and purpose in keeping these journals and publishing them.
If one is deeply committed to and desirous of the profound, intimate relationship with God and prayer... learning to pray, learning faith and how to have your prayers answered not as a mental construct rather as a living experience it takes, practice, devotion, guidance and support. God will provide this, the book and the audible version of the Autobiography are a bridge, inspiration, support and encouragement towards your intentions with useful keys to be found thru George Muller's diary as he shares his own experiences. He does not tell how to do it, you must read between the lines and gain befit from his experiences, descriptions and explanations of his praying, deeds and actions.If you are earnest in your desire to learn to pray, learn what faith is... and learn how to have a living, tangible relationship with God read with the heartfelt desire to know this and listen to the Audible and look for, listen for keys to provided towards these intentions and they will be given.On the other hand, if you are seeking only inspiration this too and not a support for deep practice this too can be provided.
This is an excellent book showing how God can provide when one simply trusts in Him and his Word. I particularly was blessed by the portion of the book that included the various spiritual challenges that Bro. Muller went through. As a Christian, I could really identify with what he felt and I think that anyone who is a God-fearing prayer warrior will identify with it as well. The end is more occupied with figures and amounts showing God's provision but I highly recommend the reading of this book by any serious person who is interesting in growing in Christ.
Over the years I've read a couple of other versions of Müller's autobiography/biography, and recently I decided to check his story out again. I found I'd given away my other versions, so bought a Kindle one, which turned out to be neither of the ones I'd read previously, as far as I can tell, though much of the information was the same, of course.Müller was meticulous in keeping accounts, and could tell you down to the last farthing how much had been given to him, or his orphans/orphanages, his schools, the missionaries he supported, his tract and Bible distribution. All this on top of running three large orphanages, praying every day for their needs, answering letters and far more.But these things are only the outcome of an extraordinary faith (although he regarded his faith as ordinary) and a willingness to allow God to supply all his needs. He never once asked anyone for anything in the way of donations, though he did let people know about the work and how it was going. More importantly he let people know about God's constant supply, not just of money but of the right people, food and much more.Müller was by no means the first to live by faith in such a way. One of his great examples was August Francke, who ran an orphanage twice as big as Müller's as well as doing much else, but who was also a great man of faith.It's not easy to see such faith at work in such a large way in the present day, but no doubt God has other men and women under his hand who walk in some measure at least like this. In fact, I've personally known a couple who lived without an income while pastoring a church in a small town.
If you want to read about a man who literally put everything in the hands of God, then this is the book. His story is amazing and his teachings from his experience are challenging and true. To be honest, it gets a bit repetitiousness that he constantly would need money but at the last minute it would show up, all the time without him asking for money from anyone except God. It's probably better than most self help books out today and he lived in the 1830's.
How did George Muller house, clothe, feed and educate over 10,000 orphans in his lifetime at a cost estimated at over $100 Million in today's dollars? By trusting in God alone and by never soliciting anyone for donations! The Wikipedia page about him confirms this. His autobiography is an almost daily, blow-by-blow account of how all this happened.
Mr Muller was not one to engage in self-glorification and this autobiography is told in a rather "matter of fact" manner. What is noteworthy is the tremendous and self-less work Muller and his associates engaged in by rescuing hundreds of children in 19th century England. Muller is best known for faithfully depending on God's provision to supply both his needs and the needs of the ministry. He worked hard to stay on a "cash only" basis; however, the book acknowledges that there were times when he and his staff went unpaid. Interesting work to show the levels of self-sacrifice some paid to provide a valuable social service.
