Lo lei para aprender el idioma, pero en vez fui llevarse a un lugar horrible pero fascinante a la vez. La escritura de Alvarez es increible mientras el tema es una de la mas sangrimiento y hueso escalofriante historias de todos de latinoamerica. Lo lei una y otra vez, no pude parar. Gracias a Alvarez por enciende una luz en una importante leccion de historia para todos.
Our conversational spanish class read this book in spanish along with the english translation...a spanish "Book club" is a great tool for learning or brushing up the language. This marvelous book, based on true events inspired great discussion and of course we have a wealth of new vocabulary. Based on the heart wrenching story of the Maribel sisters of the Dominican Republic at the time of Tujillo the author Julia Alvarez uses great insight in presenting the woman as real human beings whose very humanity transcends the legends they have become. An absorbing read about a time most Americans know very little.
My wife bought it. She has no opinion yet.
This is the Spanish version of In the Time of the Butterflies, the powerful story of and tribute to the valiant Mirabal sisters who led the opposition movement against the Trujillo dictatorship in the Dominican Republic. Beautifully written and captivating, this book tells their very important and inspiring story. A must read.

Estoy en la mitad del libro y no sé si lo terminaré de leer. Conozco bastante bien el comunismo y me cuesta creer que la opresión del Gobierno de la República Dominicana haya sido peor que la opresión comunista.
How could I not give this book five stars, knowing it is a classic from my country, the Dominican Republic. I think that this book is a must read for all who want to know a little about the time setting during which the Dictator Trujillo governed the Republic, and to learn of the tragic tale of the three heroic women who lost their lives for standing up to him!
