I've been following Robyn for a while because I really enjoy her laid back be-healthy-but-eat-cake-at-the-party advice. She doesn't err too strict but she's not lax either. In this book, I particularly liked her emphasis on digestive health because so much is being discovered about the gut as both a central part of the body's immune system as well as its surprising role in mood regulation. As a vegetarian I also liked that most of the recipes in Robyn's book are plant-based, although she does offer some modifications. PS - Her detox salad is delicious. :)

I am LOVING this book (seriously...I read it at night before bed. I'm dangerously close to sleeping with it cuddled next to me). Robyn has some great tips and tricks for helping you digest much better - and some awesome gut-friendly recipes.

I'm a pretty particular eater - mostly vegan, no soy, careful to food combine - however I found the recipes very easy to modify. The lemony lentil soup is I think the best soup I've ever made. Perfect balance of flavors! I've followed Robyn in social media for a few years and really love her energy, which was apparent throughout the book. I appreciate the mind-body aspects of the book as well. Highly recommend!

Is this a bad book? No. But is it good? Is it complete? Is it comprehensive? Can you easily find specific information? Well... that's where the problems come in.First of all, let me say this, so that anybody reading the review has some idea of where the reviewer is coming from. I used to use AE quite a bit several years ago, but I basically haven't touched it since at least 2014. So there's a LOT I don't remember too clearly about exactly how everything works, and it's a complex program, obviously. And just as obviously, there have been a lot of updates (even though the basics are the same.) I always used the Trish and Chris Meyer books in the past, but the last published edition was in 2010. So, as far as books... there aren't a lot of choices. There are a lot of random videos out there, and there's also lynda.com (more about that later), but there are just not many selections at all for the old school analog book.First, the good: This book is well-written, and the examples are clear. The tutorials are fun and well-paced, also well-explained. The basics are... well, KIND OF basically covered (shape, text, animation, layers, masks, puppet tools, rotobrush, color correction, 3D features included the camera tracker, advanced editing, rendering.) The problem came in when I started thinking about how well this would all work for someone who was a REAL beginner rather than a past user who just hadn't picked up the new edition for a few years. Because the truth is, the basics aren't really covered, and here's the proof.Look at an old copy of the last Trish and Chris Meyer 2010 book, *Creating Motion Graphics With After Effects.* I have a copy on the desk right now. It's 752 pages. The Classroom in a Book is 399 pages. Yep-- 752 pages to cover the OLDER version, and 388 pages to cover the NEWER version, with all the added features. Lots and lots and lots of the essentials have been cut out. Look for a list of keyboard shortcuts-- it's not there. Look for the older, much longer chapters going into detail about fundamental concepts like layers and keyframes and editing-- not there. Look for xyzabc etc etc etc... not there. In 388 pages, it CAN'T be there.So why not just go to a source like lynda . com, you ask? I've had that membership for a long time, and I think I might even renew it again. THAT is where Trish and Chris Meyer went, and their instructional videos are there. But here's the problem with a video lesson format: you're tied to the pace and teaching methods decided on by the people who *made* the videos. There is no reference manual. And that's what the Classroom in a Book desperately needed to be. I do not have a lot of patience for going through videos and spending literally ten or twenty times the amount of time I would spend to look up something in a true reference book. Sometimes, we need specific pieces of information easily and quickly accessible and put together in an understandable way rather than having to sit through several twenty minute videos to try to figure out something very specific that we want to do. (The Adobe help and user forums are absolutely not a solution either, which is too bad.) What really needed to happen is for Trish and Chris Meyer to keep coming out with books, whether in print or online format. That's really what they should do-- online editions of updated AE books-- instead of 100% sticking to videos That is the strongest aspect of the Classroom book, btw-- when you buy it, you can go online to peachpit press and use the online version. But I don't think it's enough. I haven't decided yet if I'll be returning this book, but that might happen, even though it isn't exactly bad... it's just not good enough.PROS:Does have some good infoTutorials are well writtenDoes cover some of what you need to knowOnline version included with the purchase is very nice.CONSDoes not cover the basics very wellDoes not contain comprehensive information about the nuts and bolts of AE in the way that the Trish and Chris Meyer books didNot a reference book, which it needed to beNot long enoughEmphasis on tutorials rather than constructing the "building blocks" of the basic knowledge you need to use AE as a tool.WAY too expensive for what it is.Overall, this isn't a bad book to have in your library... but I would seriously also buy Creating Motion Graphics with After Effects, 5th Edition. Even though it doesn't have info on the most recent updates, it comprehensively covers the basics, and the new CiaB does not. For $56.50, the new book needs to offer more than it does.

I've used a few classroom in a book textbooks for my graphic design courses at Arizona State.This book is just terrible compared to the books for InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator. This book is full of typos, small dark pictures, and unclear instruction. I would not suggest getting this if you're a complete newbie to After Effects. If you've managed to mess around with the program and have a good feel for it, I would suggest this book as a guide at best. However you would probably be better off saving your money and following along with a tutorial found on Google or Pinterest.

I don't think you ever work though a complete project. It's very disorganized and jumps around. Like the author was going "oh, let me show you this. oh let me show you that." You start a project then its confusing because the next section doesn't pick up where you left off, you just abandon it.

I really wish I had taken the bad reviews to heart. It's extremely frustrating, what with the mistakes in the book combined with very tedious and complicated instruction. It became too much to tolerate, even for a patient person, by the fifth chapter and I have, for now, given up on this book.

i've paid tuitiion fe es for multiple college level graphic design courses that simply teach from these books. The adobe textbooks take the "long way" to explain everything, but its detailed. and it works. ... been very successful with other Adobe Suite Applications.

Kindle version: Lots of typos. Long captions unnecessarily describe everything in each screenshot. I wonder if a draft copy mistakenly made it into the Kindle distribution. Otherwise, the content seems fine - a good refresher/update for someone like me who has been away from AE for several years.

This was a great 101 introduction to After Effects. It's full of basic tutorials and some resource full tips for new updates and shortcuts included in the 2018 version. However, there were a few misprints and missing information in some tutorials that I had to google search and ask a pro about. However, if you want to begin the steps of learning after effects...this is the way to go.

I'm of two minds on this book. I believe that Anne Hillerman has really captured the flavor and characteristics of her father's characters. Changing the character focus from Leaphorn and Chee to Bernie makes good sense, and Bernie's character is well-developed and continues to develop. The focus on Bernie's mother and sister is an effective vehicle for bringing out the character's thoughts and feelings. Necessarily, Chee and Leaphorn are less-well drawn, but avid readers will still be able to accept them.My major problem is with plot and craftsmanship. Unlike "Spider Woman's Daughter" that had an intricate and well-evolved plot, the plot line in "Rock with Wings" was never really that well developed. The lead-off character with his box of dirt was a MacGuffin for the most part; and the "bad man" behind it all was only portrayed as "bad" in the closing scenes. The plot device of the grave in Monument Valley didn't work for me, as it was a lot of work to build it up to be a controversial and critical component of the story, and then it actually had little or nothing to do with the main plot line in the end. Linking the two issues of the gravesite and the solar panels through the cheezy developer/producer was very weak, especially when it was totally undeveloped except by a passing reference. And finally, the "conversion" of the lead-off character from bad-guy to guy-who-wants-to-go-straight was almost childish.Overall I give this an "average" rating. I enjoyed the writing and the characters as sketched from Tony Hillerman's book, the writing style is very similar and comfortable. As a "who dunnit" though, it really isn't that suspenseful or challenging a story.

As happy as I was to find out the Leaphorn/Chee/Manuelito saga would continue, I'm nevertheless disappointed in the books. There are twists in the plots, but they often make no sense. In this second one, there is very little tension and the cast of characters is neither compelling or convincing. Their motivations seem to come out of left field and the obligatory Bernie-in-danger ending seemed laughable. The only good thing about the books was returning to Leaphorn land, but even that seemed flattened and predictable as if a formula were being followed rather than a true connection between the author and the characters and the landscape. I think the author should let these characters end their saga and develop her own reality so that what she writes will be more compelling.

I have just recently read all of Tony's books and the first Anne H. book. I really liked her first novel, Spider Woman's Daughter. For me it was within the same style and pacing as Tony's. Unfortunately, she decided to change her style to something I don't like. For one thing, the first real crime doesn't happen until about 100 pages in. By this time, it just didn't seem to be a big deal so it's ho-hum the rest of the way through. Also, there were two separate stories which went back & forth, back & forth, back & forth. It totally ruined any suspension which there was already little of. I like the Bernie and Jim Chee characters however, I think there was too much of Bernie's family problems in this book. It seemed like a lot of filler for what was already a skimpy story. It's not that I don't want to hear about the background family stuff, it was just too, too much. I also like how Joe L. is still able to inject his smarts into the case. I think the author must be experimenting with going off into her own style, but this just won't work with me.

If you never read and loved Tony Hillerman, you'll likely feel differently. But Anne's treatment of her father's characters is not very palatable to Tony's fans. Anne turns Bernie into a nasty shrew, and her mother into a genuine harpy, constantly criticizing and ridiculing Chee, Chee is transformed from a smart and wily investigator who sometimes encounters bad luck into a bumbling incompetent who needs to be saved by Bernie at every wrong turn, which is every turn Chee takes. Leaphorn is now a semi-senile invalid lost in the past. The plots are now soap opera episodes about Bernie's dysfunctional, stereotypical, and downright boring family. If you enjoy reading four-page descriptions of making fry bread, and melodrama of the good-girl-led-astray-by-bad-boy sort, you'll love this book. To me, it was like seeing old friends slandered in a tabloid.

I wanted to like these mysteries since they are about characters I love, but Annie just isn't her dad. This is the second book I have read and it's going to be my last. The story line is flat, the characters are flatter. They just make me miss the older books. To be fair I liked Tony's books better when Leaphorn was the feature and as that shifted focus to Jim Chee I lost some interest. (Chee just started out with such a chip on his shoulder and his angst over his lawyer girlfriend and disregard for Leaphorn got old fast) but I always loved Bernie's character and thought it would be great to see more of her in the lead. Maybe it would have ben with her father at the helm...I had to go back and reread Skinwalker just to get this one out of my head. These books are about making money and milking a legacy of a far better author (just my opinion).

Maybe it's just me, but I've read every one of Tony Hillerman's novels, as well as the first one in this continuation series. This second one in the series was very slow to get off the ground with, I thought, the author getting distracted by too many side-stories. Not particularly satisfying.

Beautiful book.

The photos in this book are awesome and it will give you so many great ideas of what to do and where to go for WILD adventures! We just got it and we love it. The downside is they don't say much about any of them. I noticed they had 6 things to do in Yellowstone and none in Colorado........hmmmm?

The power of the book will likely be many different things for different people. What's to love are the clear pristine images of an interestingly diverse set of musicians/creators, their personal interview responses which are refreshingly deeper than one often gets in the music press or media, and for me particularly, the thoughtfully edited movie one can download, which offers an intriguing look and listen to many of these artists and industry mavens give more candid views about this crazy thing we call Music. It's also at least an attempt to evolve the coffee table anthology format, with new millennial media integration: documentary video and website. I also like that it focusses on music purely and not so much on the current disruption from new technologies. What's not so great for me is the somewhat sterile contemporary sheen of Zuckerman's photography, and the promise of fuller content that's evoked by the presence of a website and movie [why not more from each artist - they could post their own video responses to the book online on a Vimeo or YouTube channel, and even full interviews] but not explored. Still this is his book, very fair value for the amount of content, and though my personal preference is for more grit, less contrived, dressed-up-for-camera polish in the images and to some degree the movie; all this is more than made up for by a clear commitment to getting closer to the true relationship all these musical minds have with their beloved art form and it's fruits. The full content adds up to a significant contemporary look at a vast subject and makes it an excellent and worthy purchase for any music lover.

Boy was this book a "huge" surprise, and I mean that truely. This book was not only huge in size, but it was in exellent condition and for the price I paid, it was well worth the money. I now have most of the series and I do plan on purchasing more in future.Thanks for a great book!

This made a wonderful gift for my piano teacher. She loves it.

First, kudos to the stellar photography this book contains. Such clarity and grasping imagery. We randomly picked an artist (one we didn't know) and were engaged by the artists thoughts and take on life in general. Influences and backgrounds build the story and you come away knowing something unique about each one. How can life not be part of the story? One thing we find a bit difficult is the print size - lots of good bits to read but somewhat hard to focus on due to the size of the font and the spacing. Overall, it makes an interesting read - one of those good books to read for a short time then back onto the coffee table for another session. We were thinking it would be less philosophical and a bit more on the musicians history- either way, we're going to read every page.

I enjoyed the book. It listed some artists that I was really interested in reading about. I learned some new things about my favorite artists. It's a good coffee book to have to catch up on what make musicians tick.

Most people will buy this book for the included interview movie download. Which has a few interesting statements from great musicians, but a lot more annoying blabbering from self-important narcissists like Sinead O'Connor, Billy Corgan or Fiona Apple.Do you need to hear that Brandy never sits down to write without praying first? Do you need to see how screwed up Kenny Rogers' face really is (hint: It's much, much worse than you thought)?So, if the pictures don't warrant the price for you, don't hope for the movie to push it over the edge. It won't.

Made an impressive gift!

Got this for super cheap, I think under 10 dollars all together. Good little read that sits on my coffee table. Cool musicians are in here.

Why do some authors/publishers persist on giving Kindle users images/designs/patterns with so much black...some of these designs have too much black. Let us, the colorists, decide if we want shading and what colors we will use. I have very, very seldom used black as shading for anything. While some of the swearing is original to me, I wasn't impressed with anything used here.NOT one link at end of coloring book is valid...All get Sorry - page not found msg from Amazon.

Love the book

This is a funny and entertaining way to relax. I love these filthy coloring books.

I am disgusted with the language...I am surprised I ordered it! Guess I didn't read enough. The pictures are fine for coloring if one can get beyond the message.

There are definately some new eye popping swear words in this book, great patterns :)
