This beautiful artbook gave me hope again for the movie after the terrible trailers, which is no mean feat and a testament to its quality. I don't know how the movie will turn out, but this artbook is full of strikingly original gorgeous designs definitely inspired by ghost and the shell and its sequel. The tone is right, the costumes and designs are spot on, the production top notch. This is a must own for fans of sci fi artbooks in general and fans of GITS specifically. Well done Weta, once more.
Cohen's The Art of Ghost in the Shell is a fabulous book, filled with photos and drawings from the movie. With behind the scenes interview's from cast members and staff, it's a jewel.
Excellent, wide and beautiful artbook. You can't stop touching the surface, it's really clean, smooth, and the detail of the face's outlines is remarkable. Very well done as a whole as well, with interesting annotations. A feast for your eyes.I do feel they could have used a LOT more art/concept material. I don't really like to see photos in an artbook, but at least you don't get to see many here.Regardless of what you feel about the movie, if you like its art, this is a must for your bookcase.
Beautiful book! I just quickly flipped through this afternoon, right after getting it. I can tell it's gong to be an interesting read. I just wish there was more concept art, other than that, it's a wonderful book! I highly recommend it to any GITS fan.
I've been a longtime fan of not only the stylized moves like this, but also the accompanying art-books.The Art of Ghost in the Shell has become an instant favorite of mine. It's a great mix of photos and text without the unnecessary filler. At 150+ pages it's a great amount of content and something you'll actually want to revisit multiple times.While most books have plenty of filler pages (near-empty pages), this one seems to be packed with content and I feel they could've easily made it twice the size. Lots of full-page photos, but also lots of photos that are spread out as 3-4 to a single page. I was actually surprised with how much the book had. It's also a very hefty sized hardcover book.I didn't understand the somewhat higher price (about 25% higher than most artbooks) at first, but after receiving it you can definitely tell that they went all-out with it.Highly recommended for even those not interested in Ghost in the Shell as the artwork is well worth the price of admission. I'd buy just about any photo in the book as a large-form poster if it were available.If I had one light complaint, it would be that the book is presented in a tall format opposed to the wide that most art-books use. While not a dealbreaker by any means, I feel that there was more potential for the images if the book were presented in a wide-layout. Other than that, still 5-star book. Get it!
