What a good idea, wish I'd thought of it first! The Kids' Table was a tradition in my family, probably yours too....this book describes a meal at Grandma Mabel's (yes, where there is a table, there is usually a Mabel. And in this case it's fancy, so there's also a Nancy.) There's a big crowd of cousins, all seated together, and we read about what the little kids get up to when the grownups aren't looking. Very cute story with cheerful, brightly colored illustrations. It's told in verse, and the rhymes and meter are occasionally strained. Parts could have benefited from some minor tweaking:Mom piles food high on all of our plates,making us try the food we know we'll hate.I have no idea why it's my mom's goalto have us all love broccoli casserole.*************We play tricks at this table---don't leave your seatYou might come back to a meal you won't want to eat.Peas in your milk or some messy ketchup grins--two of the favorites from my cousins, the twins.*************But in comes crashing my grandpas' dog Daisy.With her jumping and barking it gets even more crazy!He says she's part lab, another part poodle,and calls her his sweet little Labradoodle.All in all a pleasant and amusing read which will likely hold the attention of toddlers as well.

Everyone gets love and hugs from Grandma Mabel. Squish, squish, hugs and love! Aunt Nancy has brought some lovely flowers for the "grown-ups' table," a table that little noses can barely reach. Everyone smiles and waves as they come through the door. It won't be long before it's time to eat and "like in musical chairs, we race for our seats." Watch out! Someone has bumped into little brother and he hangs over his chair and begins to cry. Waaaaah!Sitting at the little kids' table is lots of fun. "Next to our forks we have spoons at our places. / We try to get them to stick to our faces. / First you breathe on the spoon, then press it on tight. / It'll hang from your nose if you do it just right." Can you do it? Next comes the food, including that "broccoli casserole." Yuk! Not a kid at the table likes the look of that stuff. Look at how Grandma Mabel smiles as she takes a bite. Everyone loves to sit at the kids' table, do you?This is a fabulously fun adorable story in rhyme about hanging out at the kids' table everyone will giggle at. Both the verse and the artwork mesh perfectly to create one of the most adorable tales I've read in some time. It's really quite a realistic portrait of what goes on at these tables. Sure, we had our share of trouble -- just like the cousins to in this book (hot sauce hidden applesauce comes to mind) -- but we also made memories to last a lifetime. No wonder I still like to play with my food. The illustrations are gorgeous and playful and I had so much fun trying to spot the ketchup bottle on the pages -- another trick used often in attempts to kick it up a notch for those less then tempting treats. A story the whole family can relate to and delight in.

This silly romping, rhyming book is so much fun to share with a roomful of kids. I read this yesterday to 15 preschoolers, and we had a great time afterwards talking about our Thanksgiving traditions, what silly things we like to do at the table (huge shout-out to illustrator Mary Uhles for the great pictures!), and the foods we like and dislike. Any book that can entertain 15 preschoolers gets 5 stars from me! Gorgeous, fun illustrations.

Coming from a large family, we could easily relate to the dynamic of this one! Told in rhyme, it is somewhat of an ode to the little kids' table that so many of us remember about growing up. From running around to the occasional (minor) injury to finding ways to avoid eating vegetables, these little ones know that the kids' table is *much* more fun than the boring adult table. And, although the adults are quick to hush and scold- they secretly wish they were a part of the fun too (oh how right they are!).Cute read and would be loved by any family that has a designated kids' table (especially those who participate in the typical kids' table shenanigans).

This charming book is the perfect read-aloud for the upcoming holidays! With its crazy verse and pictures about the perfect family dinner gone wrong, it is sure to put a smile on the face of the reader and listener. Little kids will indeed appreciate the family antics and the out-of-control Labradoodle slurping up the broccoli casserole. He’s laser focused on football and doesn’t let other things distract him.  Jax is fiercely loyal, protective and would shoulder the world if it meant the people he loves feel less of the burden. He is an incredible man and I fell in love with him all over again in this book.Strong Female Lead: 4Harley is free-loving, high-spirited yoga instructor that loves football, specifically the Bucks.  She doesn’t care what people think of her and does whatever she wants. Harley is sassy, strong and stubborn.  I love her sharp wit and bubbling charisma. Her ability to hold her own against a bigger than life quarterback is pretty awesome as well.Plot: 4This novella should be read after the other two books in the series because it gives you background into their relationship.  Without the background, I don’t think this storyline would mean as much. With that being said, I cried numerous times reading this book.  It was so raw and real! Jax was trying so hard to do what he thought was best and it was killing him. I felt their pain and I just wanted the two characters to be happy.  I kept wondering if they’d ever get their happy… spoiler alert, THEY DO!Steamy Factor: 1.5There was a little steam but the book mainly focused on the emotional side of things.  You can definitely feel the sexual tension between the two but it doesn’t graphically play out in the book.  It totally was not needed, in my opinion.Overall: 4I read this chapter by chapter in the author’s newsletter and let me just tell you that I died every time the chapter ended because I wanted to know what happened next.  This may be a short novella but it definitely packs a punch. I grew to love the two characters, Jax and Harley, when reading the first two books of the series and I couldn’t wait to read their story.  This doesn’t start at the beginning of their love story but right after a pretty traumatic event. I would have loved it to be longer and more detailed… like a full-blown novel!

MVP by Rachel Van Dyken is a novella in the Players Game Series and a stand-alone. If you've read the series, you, like myself, have been wanting Jax's story, and now you have it!Jax is heartbroken, and soon we find out why. The love of his life is gone, but not really. She has amnesia and doesn't remember him, but to him that's better than her remembering him and the heartbreak they share with losing their child. So he bears the pain himself and tries to stay away from her, but inside he's dying. When the two of them run into each other, it hurts him for her to not know who he is, but she pursues him, and as she gets closer to him, things start to click. Getting to know Harley, I adored her.. I loved her actually. She's the opposite of Jax in so many ways, and they are the perfect match. Jax on the other hand, my heart broke for him. I understood how much he loved Harley for him to want to lesson hear heartbreak, but at the same time, I hated him for not giving him and her a chance at love again, and for her to remember him and everything that they shared.This quick read definitely has some swoonworthy moments and some angst and I really enjoyed it, but I will say, this story is shortand didn't last as long as I wanted it too! I loved Jax (even when I didn't want too), and just when this book got to be great instead of just good, and I was like YES it ended. I wanted more of Jax and Harley, I demand more of them!

About the Author

Donovan Neal M.S.N.P. is a graduate of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and has a Masters of Science in Nonprofit management from Walden University. He has functioned in the ordained ministry for over 20 years, and has served in such functions as Dean and as an instructor in his churches School of Ministry, teaching on a host of subjects ranging from Apologetics, to Leading Different Personalities. Donovan is a prolific songwriter and singer having written over 50 different songs of praise and worship for the local church, and has performed in various schools and churches in the Ministry of Christian rap. Donovan’s heart for ministry has carried over into his secular pursuits and he has worked with countless abused and neglected children, adults with developmental disabilities, and women who have been victimized by domestic and sexual abuse. He currently teaches as an adjunct professor at Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor Michigan. Donovan has three saved children Candace, Christopher and Alexander: each is involved in ministry. They currently reside in Michigan.

While I do have a couple tiny issues with some of Donovan's thought processes and definitions, overall this was a thoroughly entertaining, even riveting story of the fall of Satan and his minions. Of course, we won't know what happened until we get to heaven, this was an excellent theory.One issue, which weaved itself thru the entire story, thus pulling me out of the action time and again, is his definition and use of the word Elohim. This word is traditionally the plural of El, meaning the Trinity, Father, Son, and. Holy Spirit (or Holy Ghost).Other "issues" were small and far between.I truly enjoyed the Heaven that Donovan built for us, and the story about how Eden was created and given away. So many great things I could say, but they would give away the story for you to read.I definitely recommend this be added to your reading list if you have any interest in angels, demons, heaven and how things might have gone down to put us as God's children created in His image, and the angels as servants to us.Amazing imagination, Donovan. Kudos. And on to book two. ------>

This book gives the reader a different perspective of the fall of Lucifer, which I like. However, the writer writes like how the bible is written, and I don't like reading like that because it is hard to understand certain things. The author even has a glossary in the back of book with definitions of the words he uses, which takes away some of the enjoyment for me. There is also a glossary describing all the different varieties of angels, and there are quite a few. The angels have different ranks, they look different, serve God differently, it is hard to keep them straight. The author has put a lot of thought into these books, but it is a difficult read for me.

I loved the way he quoted from the Bible as so many verses can have meaning for more than one time. I loved the new ideas as to how this could have happened and the timeline for angels falling. It might not be true, but the ideas make sense, which in turn makes the Bible seem more understandable. It's easy to see how Lucifer, thinking so highly of himself, thought too highly, and made mistaken assumptions. I loved the question asked of him..." What shall I do to the one I wish to honor?" And from there it makes sense that he thought he was made for more than servitude. It might be fiction, but the motives applied seem so reasonable. It was full of creative ideas and action. In fact it was a bit too much violence for me that went on and on. I was frustrated with some words that I had to look up in the Kindle dictionary and then find they weren't there. A few sentences didn't make sense. And it was hard too keep up with the meaning of all the new words and remembering who was what. But I enjoyed the book and got the ideas and enjoyed the cleverness of it.

I found this book to be one of those that at times, you wonder why you're reading it as it seems to go against the grain. It does grab you and keeps you reading to see where the author is taking you. It is fantasy more than biblical, though there is a bit of allegory if you can catch it...reminiscent of Tolkein. There are error, but not horrifically distracting. It is very violent, as I suppose the fall and battles with Satan would be, and still are, I imagine. The author did well in character development and in the gradual change of Lucifer into the diabolical creature he became. The depiction of the Father and Creator of all was my main disappointment, but how can one portray Him anyway, so all encompassing is He. He was made more man-like, rather than God-like and divine (the bible does say there is no one like Him). I also did not agree with the angels being depicted as, well, basically men, but it made for a good story that way. I will not go into this, but the author did not do well in this area. He did though, get across a bit of the love of God for his creation; angels and man. I read both books, this as well as the Birth of God, so the author did accomplish that. For those not rooted in a relationship with God, many would like this book. For Christians, some may be offended, but it is truly one person's imagination and vision of what could have been, and only that...not a biblical story. He certainly has an imagination that verges on science fiction. He keeps one interested despite all the grammatical problems, misspellings and typos. I will read the next one, but another step and the author could go too far for me.

This is an intricate story that deals with and age old issue- Good and Evil. Will Good or Evil be the victor? The answer is one still being written even though based on what we see around us....Evil seems to be on top.The imagery is vivid and clear. I love the scenes that can be envisioned from reading within these pages. The length deception and lies is deep. Murmur is one of the bad guys and well named and descriptive of the imagery one the word holds. It was page turner I really enjoyed.I was very impressed with this story written by Mr. Neal. Yes, I am a Christian and a believer in the one true and Living God. Much of this story has a direct correlation to passages in the Bible. Lucifer was written about just as the story depicts him, Even many of the characters have been written about Michael, Gabriel, Lucifer and others. Coincidentally, many of the characters who play an intricate part have names associated with names that have and evil.This book can and does cause one to think about what went into the world before Darwinism was even conceived in mind of the man.Look forward to reading more of this saga...

As Jude said in verse 10 (KJV) "But these speak evil of those things which they know not; but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves." And I say to the author what the archangel Michael said to the devil when contending with him about the body of Moses (Jude verse 9 KJV), "The Lord rebuke thee."

The summary of this book really put too much emphasis on how "thrilling" it would be. While a decent read, the stories do drag on a little and I found myself getting bored a lot. It ended up being less mystery and more medical history than I thought it would be. Edlow seems to talk just for the sake of talking at times. He explains things that I don't really see as relevant or important, leaving me lost and waiting to get to the point.Overall it was well-written, I'll give it that, but it just wasn't as good as I expected. I'd recommend this to folks who are more interested in the particulars of unusual diseases and parasites, or just medical cases in general. Just be ready for a lot of background and not much focus on the cases themselves.

Just when you thought it was safe to drink milk, fresh apple cider, soak in a hot tub at a resort, or even work in your office, this set of medical emergencies which leave doctors scratching their heads. Taken from true cases, with just the identities of the patients changed, these stories read like episodes of House.Following investigators with the Center of Disease Control & Prevention in some cases are called in when multiple similar cases arise which have all the hallmarks of an impending epidemic. Following their steps in trying to identify not only what's actually wrong with the patient that's causing their kidney failure, double vision, months of headaches, bloody bowels, muscle weakness, impending death and accumulating fluid in the abdomen among other alarming problems but also the cause of the problems are really fascinating.The author also adds information about some historical cases, information about certain bacteria and their effect on the human body, in addition to different medical treatments and procedures. All in all, a very interesting book, even if some of the stories have made me ask our building manager how often their clean out the air vents in the building and rethink buying apple cider from a nearby farm.

This requires patience and deductive skill and the solution can on occasion be quite surprizing. For instance the source of an obscure bacterial infection being located in the baby sitter's fish tank or another nasty organism lurking in a loofah sponge.Dr Edlow writes in a simple and clear style that would interest both medical practitioners and the lay public. His style does not approach the greatness of other medical writers such as Jerome Groopman, Marcia Angell or Atul Gawande but is eminently readable. I enjoyed this book very much and it has reminded me to be more thoughtful in making my diagnoses!

This book felt like it would be best read as a companion to an Epidemiology course in the university to lend the science a more concrete and arguably more exciting air. Therefore, if I had been interested in Epidemiology, I believe I would have found the book interesting, but since I'm not, I found it repetitive and boring. I don't think it does to epidemiology what "The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat" did to Psychiatry, nor what CSI did to forensic science, though I can see how the stories in the book can be developed into a CSI-like TV series by an astute writer. The stories have a similar structure: A patient suffers from symptoms, an investigation is conducted, at first by the family physician but when diagnosis remains elusive, epidemiologists take over, who, by means of thorough interrogation coupled with lab work, are able to gradually hone in on a diagnosis, whereupon a cure is administered and all ends well. The lesson is usually: wash your hands before preparing food, especially if you've just pooped.

Dr. Edlow is tenaciously honest and accurate in his communication of medical concepts and the limitations of medical knowledge; and he does so in a language everyone can understand. So approachable are Dr. Edlow's stories, that they are able to immerse their readers in a world of disease and investigation as if they were directly involved. He accomplishes this feat by wrapping each story in fascinating historical detail and everyday environments and foods many will have experienced. You may never attend a dinner party, pet your cat, admire Queen Elizabeth's crown jewels, or read Harry Potter in the same way again.As a physician and a lover of well-written literature, I can wholeheartedly recommend this book to the lay person and medical professional alike.

I have read a few in this series now, which I love. I chose this one because my current assignment in life is that of a mother. The life of Susanna is that if trials, with an underlying passion to serve and be used by God. Truthfully, the story is a bit depressing, but what I gathered from it most useful. Rather than step by step parenting tips, I feel like her undying passion for her God that burned throughout her life and their family's stubborn, boldness to seek righteousness even in the face of tribulation did more to shape her children than any specific method. That and the grace of God that providentially had John and Charles cross paths with the Moravians, which transformed their theology, along with the place of influence which God had placed them enabled them to change the world.

I have bought several of the Sower Series books for a friend who home schools. I read them first because they are so good. I didn't care for this one though. Susanna Wesley may well have written and told her sons about good parenting; but in this day and age the expression of 'beating a child' is not understood as she meant it. ( At least I hope not). I cannot find the book right at this moment to give a page reference but I can say, it is the ONLY Sower Series book I WILL NOT be sending to my friend.

This is a book I have been waiting for. Learning how Susanna raised her children and her undying faith in God is the encouragement I need. What a great example she has been and her dedication proved thru her children.

History of a fine Christian mother who raised a very large family and provided an outstanding example of commitment to her Christian values.

Although there is quite a bit of historical material one cannot miss the deep spiritual impact of this account of Susanna and her family. After reading I felt motivated and have a new appreciation of the Wesley's and what they went through. Her complete faithful life was inspiring and we see what God can do with that kind of life centered on Him Bob Williams

This is an interesting, well written book. It ieasy to read and provides the best insights into the Wesleys that I have ever found.

Love the story. The book is in an excellent shape, and had no problems with this order at all. I do recommend this seller.

Susanna Wesley was written in an interesting, enjoyable, and understandable way. It gave life to someone long gone, but you felt like she was someone you would like to know today.

For the size of the book, there's a wealth of information here, the illustrations are elegant, the instructions clear, the diagrams and plans precise. The only minor criticism I have, is that there's perhaps TOO much packed in - arguably it might have been better for the authors to forego including the more complex projects in favor of expanding the construction details and techniques of the more basic ones - there is a certain amount of expertise assumed and a few steps are skimmed-over that could be explained in more detail.Having said that, its finely-balanced combination of creative imagination and practical help is unmatched in any other book on the topic I've yet come across. Possibly not a book for the complete beginner, but aside from that minor caveat, I wholeheartedly recommend it for anybody about to embark on backyard timber construction, or for somebody just seeking inspiration or encouragement to take that first step.

This is a well thought out book. It is packed with information that is helpful for a beginning builder or a seasoned builder. The plans are very creative and beautiful and most importantly they are easy to follow. I am so excited to start my second project. I built a wonderful, strong deck and now will attempt a shed. I like the helpful tips and basic building instruction. This book inspires me and encourages me to build for myself.

Nice book. Some great ideas. Helps if you have at least some basic constrution knowledge. Some very different ideas and unique structures

There are so many great ideas in this book for projects, large and small, that can really make your backyard a special place. We are still trying to figure out which one to give priority to right now.The Stiles have written a lot of books in the past, but I think this may be my favorite one. Their tree houses are really special but this book shows you how to build other smaller projects as well. The design of the projects is quite elegant and the graphics in the book are really a pleasure to look at even if you're not building yourself. We are planning to give this book to friends for special occasions this year, such as birthdays, Christmas. Very nicely designed.

I was hoping for more information on the shed building process from a construction perspective. The book is really a series of designs for slightly ornate garden structures. Everything from a gate to a treehouse. With the combination of pictures drawings and some explanations I was able to design and build my own shed/ deck structure. I relied quite a bit on you tube videos for some of the structural details however.

A cool collection of projects -- some simple, some more complex. Good, clear instructions.
